TEKLA
GOGRICHIANI
Tekla is an amazing friend, and being around her is basically a guarantee that something funny is about to happen.
We’ve travelled together, danced together, and perfected our own language of completely stupid noises across airports, taxis, and milongas. She’s always up for a party, always up for an adventure, and she brings that big, fearless energy everywhere she goes. The best kind of friend to have.
Tekla Gogrichiani is a tango dancer and teacher from Tbilisi, Georgia, now based in Rome, Italy, where she lives and works with her life partner and dance partner, Juan Manuel Acosta. Together, Tekla and Juanma have developed an international profile as performers and instructors, traveling widely for workshops, festivals, and shows.
Tekla’s work is shaped by a broad movement background. Alongside Argentine tango, she formerly trained in Georgian folk dance, which shows up in the way she uses rhythm, grounding, and dynamic changes of energy without losing the softness of connection that tango demands. Since 2016, she has taught and performed in more than 16 countries, building a reputation for clear technique, strong musical interpretation, and a warm, motivating teaching style.
In Rome, Tekla and Juan Manuel are closely linked to the local tango circuit through regular classes, special lessons, and appearances at milongas and events (often billed together), while also maintaining an active online presence with performance videos that capture their style: elegant, grounded, and story-driven.
Although Rome is home, Tekla remains strongly connected to Tbilisi and the wider Georgian tango family, returning for projects and community events when schedules align. Today, her work sits at that sweet spot between disciplined training and real social tango: building dancers who feel the music, respect the embrace, and still know how to enjoy the night. If you find yourself in Rome, go and say hi! You’ll find them both at Roma Tango Academy.
